The Danger of Self-Deception

Scripture Reference:  Matthew 7:21-27

Sermon in a Sentence

Do not deceive yourself: No one will ever enter the kingdom of heaven by merely professing, merely doing, or merely hearing the right things, but by entering into a personal relationship with Jesus that is demonstrated through a life of obedience.

Sermon Outline

  1. Though a verbal profession that “Jesus is Lord” is essential to salvation, if you do not submit to Christ’s lordship, your profession is worthless.
  2. Though you may do good things and engage in passionate religious activity, if your sincerity is not proven by a life of obedience, they will be of no value.
  3. Though you may regularly place yourself in the position to hear God’s Word, if you do not do what it says, you are foolish and in danger of destruction.
