The Golden Rule

Scripture Reference:  Matthew 7:12

Sermon in a Sentence

The authoritative standard that should govern every Christian’s life as we relate to others is that we are to be consciously concerned with their best-interests, treating them just as we would desire to be treated, and as God has treated us.

Sermon Outline

  1. “Therefore…”:  As Christians we are called to remember the goodness that our Heavenly Father has shown us, and then imitate the goodness in the way that we deal with others.
  2. “…whatever you want men to do to you…”:  As Christians we are called to consider how we would wish to be treated and then respond to others in like manner.
  3. “…do also to them…”:  As Christians we are called to actively and deliberately pursue the best-interests of others.
  4. “…for this is the Law and the Prophets.”:  As Christians we are called to love others by putting their needs on the same level as our own, thereby fulfilling the requirement of God’s Law.
